AT TOKYO to Open Hokkaido Center #1 (HC1)
in S.T.E.P. Sapporo Data Center
To Provide Neutral, Flexible Connectivity that Encourages
Dispersed Digital Infrastructure in Japan

AT TOKYO Corporation (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and Chief Executive Officer: Akira Nakamura; hereinafter referred to as “AT TOKYO”) and Hokkaido Telecommunication Network Co., Inc. (Headquarters: Sapporo, Hokkaido; President and Chief Executive Officer: Hiroaki Furugori; hereinafter referred to as “HOTnet”) have agreed to open AT TOKYO Hokkaido Center #1 (abbreviated and hereinafter referred to as “HC1”) in the S.T.E.P. Sapporo Data Center in Autumn 2022, augmenting its data center presence in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka.

A sharp increase in data traffic and the urgent demand for low latency network in today’s telecommunication environment pushes enterprises to take contingent measures for geographical risks concentrated in Tokyo and Osaka.

The HC1 will reside in the S.T.E.P. Sapporo Data Center owned by HOTnet, located in a prime location in central Sapporo. It will support interconnection between Tokyo region and Ishikari/Tomakomai area which invites a collection of data centers for regionally dispersed digital infrastructure, and will be one of the key data centers for AT TOKYO’s future strategy.

It will enable the current AT TOKYO data centers to flexibly connect with the S.T.E.P. Sapporo Data Center, allowing customers of both data centers to benefit from low-latency and secure network connectivity, as well as enabling disaster recovery options, or usage as a domestic or global business platform.

In this age of IoT/5G and the growing needs for regionally-dispersed systems of edge computing, AT TOKYO and HOTnet will further strengthen its collaborations to establish a network location and platform business for the next generation. Both companies are determined to promote digitalization and a dispersed digital infrastructure across Japan, and contribute to customer’s business growth and creation of new value.
