AT TOKYO Corporation (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo, President and Chief Executive Officer: Akira Nakamura; hereinafter referred to as "AT TOKYO") and BroadBand Tower, Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer: Hiroshi Fujiwara, Ph.D., JASDAQ: 3776; hereinafter referred to as “BroadBand Tower”) have today launched collaborative services having now connected their respective data centers.

Since the July 2019 announcement of their plans for a strategic partnership, and subsequent connection of their data centers, both companies have been working hard behind the scenes to develop a range of collaborative services.
Customers now can utilize the connectivity services of both data center operators via AT TOKYO’s connectivity platform, ATBeX (*1). This will provide customers with one-stop solution, from the initial request, through to the use of any of the services provided by either of the two data center operators, and via either initial point of contact.

The following are the key benefits of this collaboration, and some of the new services that will be available to customers.


【Benefits to Customers】

AT TOKYO customers will now enjoy access to a range of connectivity services provided by BroadBand Tower made available on the ATBeX platform. Similarly, BroadBand Tower customers will have easy access to the connectivity and other services offered by AT TOKYO via ATBeX.


【Newly Available Services】

1. Use of BroadBand Tower’s IP Transit Service (Internet connection for ISP/contents providers).
AT TOKYO customers will have access to BroadBand Tower’s IP Transit Service, AS9607 (*2), via ATBeX. The IP Transit Service combined with AT TOKYO’s AS9999 enables to multi-home Internet connectivity through diverse Autonomous Systems (AS).

2. BroadBand Tower to leverage the cloud connectivity services of AT TOKYO.
BroadBand Tower customers can use the ATBeX’ connectivity platform to enable access to a series of cloud services including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud™ and IBM Cloud over a closed network. ATBeX facilitates prompt and flexible connections to cloud providers with bandwidth options available from 50Mbps up to 10Gbps.

3. Rack to rack connectivity between data centers.
Interconnectivity between AT TOKYO and BroadBand Tower data centers is facilitated by Layer 2 (*3) dedicated line connections across data center sites. This connectivity service is provided via ATBeX for bandwidth ranges between 50Mbps and 10Gbps, and via Data Center Interconnect (DCI) over WDM (*4) for bandwidths of 10Gbps or 100Gbps.

Part of the SECOM Group, AT TOKYO operates several mega-scale data centers, famed for their excellent infrastructure such as highly reliable power supplies, and has been recognized in recent years as one of the largest domestic carrier-neutral data center operators. It is also where Japan’s major Internet eXchange (IX) operators (JPIX, BBIX, and JPNAP), and where telecommunications carriers and network service providers from home and abroad choose to host their services.

BroadBand Tower has been providing a data center services in the Otemachi business district of central Tokyo since its foundation, and also at several other urban type data centers, and features remarkable proximity to IX points. To respond to the upcoming needs of the 5G era, it launched its “New Otemachi” site in August 2018.

BroadBand Tower provides high-speed and stable connectivity including dc.connect (*5), a closed area network service for direct connection to AWS, Microsoft Azure, and other cloud service providers, whilst further enhancing the connectivity options to Japan’s three major IXs.

Both companies will continue to strengthen the partnership, taking this opportunity to expand the use of services and solutions of both companies, and to then continue to proactively facilitate an environment that contributes to the creation of new business opportunities by our customers using our high-quality and flexible connectivity.




*1: ATBeX:
Network service platform that connects multiple customer networks between AT TOKYO and affiliate data centers.
*2: Autonomous System (AS):
An independent network that is a part of the Internet. AS numbers are individually assigned.
*3: Layer 2 (L2):
Second layer of the seven-layer OSI model. Delivers signals to a directly (adjacently) connected communications device.
*4: Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM):
Method to effect high-speed, large-capacity data transmission by sending signals of several different wavelenths of light into one optical fiber cable.
*5: dc.connect:
BroadBand Tower’s closed area connection service for direct connection to AWS, Microsoft Azure, and other cloud service providers.
