AT TOKYO currently operates four data centers
in Tokyo and two in Osaka.

For more and more companies, planning for disaster recovery and business continuity has become a significant matter. This has resulted in growing interest in the location, facilities and network of data centers. Here in Japan, companies from around the world that are finding their way in the local market have found a fertile first call for data center services in AT TOKYO.

The reason so many users from a wide range of industries take advantage of AT TOKYO data centers comes down to an operating philosophy that makes no compromises and asks for none from its customers. Since its founding, AT TOKYO has prioritized zero-downtime operation, building firm reliability for its facilities, buildings and itself as a company. As dedicated specialists in the data center business, a sense of pride, shared responsibility and duty runs through all employees, from technicians to administrative staff.

As a result of the growing attention it has received, AT TOKYO is now one of the largest carrier-neutral data center operator in Japan. It serves as a connectivity site for mega cloud services such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform™, IBM Cloud and Oracle Cloud, as well as gathering Japan’s major IXs, along with a number of major Japanese and international carriers and network service providers.

AT TOKYO’s data centers

AT TOKYO operates data centers both in Tokyo itself and in the Kansai region of western Japan, with the emphasis on providing security and flexibility to clients.

The Chuo Data Center, commonly known as CC1, is AT TOKYO’s flagship data center. Located within Tokyo 23 wards, CC1 is a large-scale data center with a total floor area of 140,000 square meters. A connectivity site for mega cloud services, it is home to Japan’s major IXs, as well as many major Japanese and international carriers and network service providers.

AT TOKYO Chuo Data Center #2, or CC2, is also located within Tokyo 23 wards and is a unique data center optimized for energy efficiency.

Further Tokyo data centers also emphasize sturdiness. DC2 is situated underground, making it highly resistant to earthquakes, while DC3 stands upon the solid ground of the Tama area in Tokyo’s western suburbs.

In the Kansai region, the Kansai Chuo Center, or KC1, is located in the central area of Osaka, offering services for customers in the financial industry, and in November 2000 it was designated as the Kansai Proximity Area for the Japan Exchange Group.

DC12, meanwhile, offers carrier-neutral data center services as the Kansai region’s network hub. By using DC12 together with the Tokyo metropolitan area data hub at CC1, it is possible to achieve network redundancy and efficient network implementation.

QC1 in Fukuoka, the central business district of Kyushu, provides superior network and business environment for customers in Kyushu and Western Japan.

Facilities boasting prominent reliability

AT TOKYO considers its highly reliable facilities as a key strength, with a dedication to providing world-class durable buildings and delivering a stable electricity supply, and is utilized by global companies in Japan and worldwide. An example of this approach can be seen by taking a look at CC1’s electricity supply systems.

Ever since the Great East Japan Earthquake, users have become extremely conscious of how crucial emergency generators can be, and the company has addressed these concerns with multiple layers of redundancy.

AT TOKYO employs gas turbines for its emergency generators because of their rapid synchronization and high combustion efficiency. The company is very conscious of the fact that it is essential for its generators to be able to function at any time, investing several hundreds of million yen in conducting monthly operational tests and replacing components as necessary. The need for CC1 to use these emergency generators has not arisen since the start of operations.

Additionally, with UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), batteries are replaced every 7 years, and the UPS unit itself is exchanged every 15 years. This kind of replacement requires double the space in order to permit the installation of another same-scale unit.

This abundance of backup measures may seem wasteful, but AT TOKYO takes the view that the security they ensure is an extremely powerful demonstration of the company’s credibility.

Flexible connectivity

Another of AT TOKYO’s priorities lies in carrier-neutral, flexible connectivity and security measures, and its strength in this area is evidenced by how the company is becoming the service of choice for mission-critical projects, including as a cloud provider’s connectivity site, as well as for IXs and ISPs.

AT TOKYO has established itself as both carrier-neutral and vendor-neutral, creating an environment that is freely accessible to many telecommunications carriers including international carriers. It also functions as a worldwide communications hub, offering a high level of overseas access via numerous submarine cable networks.

The company aims to enhance the value its data centers offer by strengthening its connectivity services.

Bilingual operational services

One of the essential characteristics of AT TOKYO is its provision of bilingual (English/Japanese) operational services.

Bilingual staff are not just limited to the sales team. AT TOKYO bilingual onsite engineers also work 24/365 on behalf of customers. This enables customers to complete their onsite projects – from primary troubleshooting support, receipt of additional equipment and waste disposal to field replaceable unit (FRU) exchange – without actually needing to be onsite themselves.

In addition to this, AT TOKYO data centers provide bilingual support from onsite notifications to email messages.

Consideration to the environment

AT TOKYO has received particular acclaim for its environmental initiatives, and was certified by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as one of the city’s “Top-Level Facilities” for outstanding global-warming countermeasure efforts.

As a leading company in the data center industry, AT TOKYO has achieved 24/365 stable data center operation, utilizing advanced facility maintenance technology, while offering exceptionally reliable electricity supply, earthquake-resistant buildings, and top-class facility infrastructure such as optical-fiber networks and flexible connectivity.

Perhaps most importantly, it is significant that AT TOKYO staff members operate data centers with a great sense of responsibility, putting their hearts into their work and responding sincerely and diligently to their customers.

In addition to its strengths in technical areas and facilities, as well as service provision that is distinctly Japanese in its conscientiousness and attention to every detail, AT TOKYO is maintaining its unique prominence as a pioneering company among Japan’s data centers, while preserving its status as an industry leader. With all these strengths in mind, it isn’t difficult to understand why so many clients are choosing AT TOKYO.
